STAIRCASE HIGHLIGHTS

What Makes Our Staircases Different

Designed as Part of the Architecture
We work to make sure the staircase aligns with openings, floor finishes and balustrade lines. The result feels deliberate, not squeezed into whatever space is left.
Comfortable to Climb and Safe to Use
Riser heights, tread depths, handrail positions and landings are all developed in line with SANS requirements and tested against real-world use.
Engineering You Can Trust
Behind the clean steelwork is careful structural design. Our staircases are engineered and checked by qualified professionals so the structure, fixings and connections perform exactly as required.
Integrated Balustrades and Handrails
Because we handle both staircases and balustrades, junctions between the two are resolved from the start. Handrails flow cleanly, glass or steel balustrades tie into the structure neatly and there’s no on-site improvisation.

Staircase Frequently Asked Questions

What types of staircases does Steel Studio offer?

We design and install a wide range of steel staircases, including floating and spine stairs, straight and turning flights, external and fire-escape staircases, and steel stair structures with timber or concrete treads. We can also provide steel cage formwork for in-situ concrete stairs.

Yes. We regularly work from architectural drawings, 3D models and design concepts. Our team develops detailed shop drawings, resolves structural and balustrade interfaces and coordinates with other trades before fabrication begins.

We design staircases around SANS deemed-to-satisfy rules for riser and tread dimensions, going, headroom, handrail heights and balustrade requirements. Structural elements are checked by qualified professionals, and we can provide the necessary documentation and certification for sign-off.

We do both. While many of our projects involve high-visibility feature stairs, we also design and install robust service and escape staircases where practicality and durability are the priority.

Options include painted or powder-coated steel, hot-dip galvanising for external stairs, stainless steel elements, and a range of timber or other tread finishes. We’ll recommend finishes based on your design intent, location and maintenance expectations.

The earlier the better. Bringing us in during design or early technical stages allows us to advise on stair layout, structural depth and balustrade integration, which can save time and changes later in the programme.

Our installation teams are used to working on both live and new-build sites. We plan lifting, access and protection measures in advance and coordinate closely with the main contractor to minimise disruption and maintain site safety.
