Frameless Glass Balustrades

At Steel Studio, we ensure that all of our frameless glass balustrades are designed and approved by a professional, structural engineer. Therefore ensuring that not only the correct thickness and type of glass is used for your installation, but also that the installation is done according to the engineers calculations and in compliance with SANS. Thus ensuring that your balustrades are safe for anyone using the building.

In order for Steel Studio to commence with manufacturing, we would need to do our final measurements from your finished floor levels in order to produce shop drawings. Therefore, as soon as your flooring installation nears completion, you should place your order.

Routine cleaning with a simple solution of warm water and mild detergent is recommended routinely. It is suggested to do this maintenance at the same time as you are cleaning your windows. For more stubborn marks, contact your supplier for a solution.

All of our stainless steel components used to fix our frameless glass balustrades are custom engineered components and available in Grade 304 brushed finish for general areas and in Grade 316 mirror polished finish for corrosive environments. Our components are all solid cast components and not plated unlike what you may find in the market. Our components are custom to Steel Studio and are not available in the South African market place.

Yes. Our standard frameless glass balustrades are designed and approved by a professional structural engineer as required by SANS. Additional to SANS10160 requirements all frameless glass balustrade systems must comply with a 400 Joule soft body impact test. On completion of your installation, you will receive a document stating that your balustrades comply with all of the regulatory codes as set out by SANS.

If there is a change in level of more than 1 meter, you will be required to install a balustrade at 1 meter in height. The height and width of a possible upstand will need to be taken into consideration when calculating the balustrade height. If a person can use an upstand as a step then the balustrade height needs to measure 1 meter from the top of the upstand.
