We took a recent visit to the site of a botched balustrade installation and opened up a hornet’s nest of aesthetic and safety concerns for everyone that utilises the facility. Unsightly and inappropriate welding choices, incorrect alignment, poor bend quality and insufficient horizontal load capacity all pointed to one thing: the job simply did not comply with the requirements of SANS 10160 for handrail installations.
