We at Steel Studio are specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of stainless steel and glass balustrade systems. We have 31 qualified installation teams that service residential and commercial projects nationally. Steel Studio consists of a permanent staff team of over 200 employees that is made up of management, a sales and estimating department, research and development, project managers, draughtsmen, artisans, skilled and semi-skilled workers.
With our full time, in-house health and safety officers, we are able to ensure that all of our projects are in compliance with all of the health and safety standards required by law. We are experts in our field and we possess the technology and innovation to produce a range of balustrades that comply with all of the regulatory codes as set out by SANS.
South Africa has moved towards becoming a far more regulated building industry and more and more industry professionals and homeowners have found themselves unaware that they are on the wrong side of these regulations. We have invested 2 years in understanding the SANS codes in regards to balustrades and with this knowledge we have developed a recipe to produce our range of SANS compliant products while maintaining the visually appealing, custom aesthetic designs that we’re renowned for. We are dedicated to developing a self-regulated and fully compliant industry and in an effort to lead from the front we offer balustrades, staircases and pool enclosures that are built according to the regulations set out by the South African National Standards.
Steel Studio provides a professional engineers certificate on completion of your project stating that the balustrades comply with SANS 10160 and SANS 10400 and;
Where glazing is present in the balustrade installation, our products additionally comply with: SANS 1263-1:2006 – (Part 1: Safety performance of glazing materials under human impact). Point 9.4.7. refers to the fact that the glass needs to withstand an impact of 400 J of energy by means of a sand bag (30kg) test. SANS 10137:2011 – The installation of glazing in buildings. Please take note that a Certificate stating the balustrades comply with SANS 10400 does not mean that the balustrades comply with the SANS 10160 Structural Loading requirements for defined occupancy categories. A professional engineer’s certificate stating that the balustrades comply with SANS 10160 is paramount. By ensuring that your balustrade installation complies with these mandatory codes, you are effectively providing a safe environment for all that will utilise the building.
