Frameless Glass with Handrail – SANS Compliant
12mm, 15mm or 19mm toughened glass is typically used for frameless balustrades that are point mounted to the edge of a slab. These balustrades will require a handrail in order to withstand a 400J human impact (swing bag) test. The handrail will assist in distributing the load on impact thereby reducing the stresses around the holes in the glass at the mounting points. This load test video shows the importance of the handrail on this balustrade system in order for it to meet SANS loading requirements.
Frameless Glass without Handrail – NON SANS Compliant
12mm, 15mm or 19mm toughened glass is typically used for frameless balustrades that are point mounted to the edge of a slab. These balustrades will require a handrail in order to withstand a 400J human impact (swing bag) test. The handrail will assist in distributing the load on impact thereby reducing the stresses around the holes in the glass at the mounting points. This load test video shows how the glass fails upon impact and therefore confirms the importance of the handrail on this balustrade system in order for it to meet SANS loading requirements.
